Claim:
A video has been rapidly circulating on social media since yesterday, claiming: “Despite having 57 Islamic countries, Al-Aqsa Mosque has been lost. Israel has captured Al-Aqsa Mosque and banned Muslim entry.”
The video has been widely reposted and shared by users, leading to widespread anger and concern among the public. Many have labeled this situation as a failure of the Muslim Ummah. Overall, the video has deeply impacted public emotions, sparking extensive debate and discussion.
Reality:
According to research conducted by our team, the claims made in the viral video are baseless and misleading. In reality, the footage is from 19th April, the day before the Easter festival. On that day, a large gathering of Christian worshippers took place at the historic Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, where they participated in the sacred religious ceremony known as the Holy Fire ritual.
Additionally, the video shows a flag that some viewers have mistakenly identified as the Israeli flag, further reinforcing their belief that Israel had seized Al-Aqsa Mosque. However, the flag shown is actually that of Greece, not Israel.
History about the Church:
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is located in the Christian Quarter of East Jerusalem and is one of the holiest sites for Christians. It is believed to be the place where Jesus Christ was crucified, buried, and resurrected, which is why it is also called the “Church of the Resurrection”. The church is administered by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, along with shared responsibilities held by other Christian denominations. East Jerusalem, where the church stands, was captured by Israel from Jordan during the 1967 Six-Day War and later unilaterally annexed in 1980. Although the church itself remains under Christian control, centuries of religious tradition have increasingly come under pressure due to Israel’s growing restrictions on Palestinian movement. Palestinians from the West Bank, including Christians, must obtain military permits to enter Jerusalem.
Conclusion:
It has been conclusively established that the footage shown in the video has no connection to Al-Aqsa Mosque or any alleged Israeli seizure. The video is being circulated misleadingly to spread panic and misinformation. The public is strongly urged to verify information before sharing such content to ensure the dissemination of accurate and reliable news. #AlAqsaMosque#IsraelOccupation#viralvideos#FakeNews @Israel @IsraeliPM
