No Credible Evidence of Donkey Meat in Islamabad Restaurants

Claim: Three days ago, during a major operation by the Islamabad Food Authority (ifaislamabad) in the Tarnol area of Pakistan’s capital, more than 50 live donkeys and over 25 maunds (1,000 kilograms) of meat were reportedly recovered. Shortly after the news broke, a sensational claim began circulating on social media, alleging that donkey meat was being supplied to several well-known hotels and restaurants in Islamabad. The claim first emerged on Twitter, where user Arabela_Belaz alleged: “Donkey meat being sold in Islamabad. The following hotels have been receiving this ‘meat’:

1. Malang Jan Bannu Beef Pulao 2. Janan Foods 3. Monal Rawalpindi 4. Ox & Grill Steak House 5. CFU 6. Kabul Restaurant – F7 7. Papasallis 8. American Steak House”

Another user, Waleed (laffsmith), later shared a screenshot of this post, causing the claim to go viral. It quickly attracted millions of views, sparking online debates and public concern.

Reality: Our investigative team has found no evidence to support the claim, confirming it to be entirely false and baseless. There is no credible evidence or official confirmation suggesting that any of the named restaurants in Islamabad received or served donkey meat. Notably, the user Arabela_Belaz who originally made the post has since deleted it. This deletion may indicate the user’s own doubts about the claim’s authenticity or a response to criticism for spreading false information. On July 27, Irfan Nawaz Memon, Director of ifaislamabad, addressed the issue in an official statement. He clarified: “We had intelligence on donkey meat activity in Islamabad a week prior. Our teams worked over the course of a week to catch the perpetrators red-handed. As for where the meat was being supplied, investigations are ongoing. Some reports suggest it may have been supplied to foreigners, and there is a possibility it was sent outside of Islamabad. However, so far, there is no evidence linking any reputable restaurant or food chain to this meat distribution.”

Conclusion: Based on official statements and our independent verification, the viral claim linking well-known restaurants in Islamabad to donkey meat is false. We urge the public to act responsibly and avoid spreading unverified claims. Always consult credible sources and wait for official investigations before drawing conclusions. Sharing misinformation not only damages reputations but also causes unnecessary fear and confusion. #Islamabad#donkeymeat#RestaurantsTargeted#FalseAccusations#FakeNews
