Claim: In recent days, a narrative has been actively circulated on social media suggesting that former Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail, is facing extremely harsh conditions. The posts claim that his health has deteriorated to such an extent that he has expressed serious concern for his life. The statement first appeared on the Facebook page True Pakistan in the form of a graphic post quoting Imran Khan as saying: “I’m facing such severe hardships that I may not survive them.” A similar post later surfaced on another page operating under the name Pakistan Tribune, where the following statement was attributed to him: “I’m being subjected to such hardships that I might leave this world while enduring them.” This claim was further amplified by other social media accounts and pages such as Dekh Lo, Pakistan Republic, The Pakistan Frontier and True Pakistan Plus, where it was widely shared by users. Supporters of PTIofficial reacted strongly to the claims — with some expressing deep concern over Khan’s alleged condition, while others questioned the treatment of prisoners in jail.
Fact-Check: Our investigation found no evidence that Imran Khan has issued any such statement regarding threats to his life in jail. No such remarks have been shared through his official social media accounts, nor have they been released by PTIofficial or reported by any credible media outlet. Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, firmly denied the claim via her official account on X (formerly Twitter). In her statement, she wrote: “This is a deliberately spread piece of misinformation. Imran Khan has endured far greater hardships in Adiala Jail than other prisoners, but his unshakeable faith in Allah remains his greatest strength. He is imprisoned not for himself, but for the people of Pakistan. Authorities are using unlawful and humiliating tactics to break his spirit, but he will not retreat from his principled stance.” Following her statement, PTIofficial social media accounts also addressed the claim, reposting it with the original caption and labeling it as false and misleading. The claim, which initially appeared on True Pakistan, was deleted the same day after the strong denials issued by Aleema Khan and PTIofficial. This clearly indicates that the claim was unfounded and fabricated.
Conclusion: This situation highlights the dangers of spreading unverified information on social media. Such baseless claims not only mislead the public but also provoke unnecessary tension within the political landscape. The public is strongly urged to verify any information through credible and authentic sources before accepting or sharing it. Upholding the distinction between truth and falsehood is essential to ensuring informed and responsible discourse.
